Questions people ask
Does ChatPilot send messages by itself?
No. Every reply is a draft until you press Send. The exceptions are the ones you switch on yourself: an away message rule, or the autopilot for a single chat. The autopilot says it's an AI assistant, marks its messages, has a daily limit, pauses when you write and reports everything it sent.
Do my messages leave my computer?
Chats you set to Store stay on your computer. Chats you set to Store + AI are sent to Claude when they need sorting, a draft or a summary, through your own Claude login. Chats you set to Store + local AI only go to an AI model on your own computer, never to Claude. Chats you leave off are not read at all. See Privacy & safety.
What does it cost?
ChatPilot is in a private beta, and we'll share pricing before the beta ends. Claude runs on your own Claude subscription, so there's no separate AI bill. A local AI model (Ollama, LM Studio) costs nothing at all, but is slower and less sharp than Claude, especially for drafts.
Is WhatsApp safe to connect?
WhatsApp has no official API for personal accounts, so ChatPilot connects as a linked device, the way WhatsApp Web does. It acts like a quiet desktop client: no read receipts, no typing indicators, no bulk sending. WhatsApp may still restrict numbers it thinks are automated, so the risk is small but not zero. WhatsApp is off until you switch it on.
Which apps does it support?
WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, email (any IMAP/SMTP mailbox, Gmail, iCloud and Outlook) and, on a Mac, iMessage and SMS. Personal Microsoft Teams isn't supported: Microsoft doesn't offer chat access for free accounts.
Which computers does it run on?
macOS 14 or newer, Linux (desktop, server or Docker) and Windows 10/11. iMessage and SMS only work on a Mac. Your phone can use the panel through Tailscale, and the Telegram bot works anywhere.
Does my computer have to stay on?
ChatPilot sorts, drafts and alerts while it runs. If you want it around the clock, run it on a computer that stays on, a Linux server or in Docker.
What happens when I switch a chat off?
ChatPilot stops reading it and deletes what it stored for that chat: messages and cached media.
Can Claude change anything in my systems?
No. Claude can read the folders you allow and use read-only tools of data sources you connect. Tools that create, update, delete or send something are left out. Even filing a ticket only happens when you press File.
