Terms of use
The licence agreement for the ChatPilot app. How ChatPilot handles your data is in the privacy policy and on Privacy & safety.
Version 1.0 (private beta) · 24 October 2026
1. Who we are and what this covers
This agreement is between you and the makers of ChatPilot ("we", "us"). It covers the ChatPilot software you install on your own computer or server, its updates, and the support services that come with it, such as problem reports ("ChatPilot"). By installing or using ChatPilot you accept this agreement. If you use ChatPilot for an organisation, you accept it for that organisation and confirm you may do so.
2. Your licence
2.1 We give you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to install and use ChatPilot for the plan you have, on the number of devices or seats that plan allows, for as long as your licence is valid.
2.2 During the private beta, use is free and limited to people we invited. We may end the beta, or ask you to move to a paid plan, with 30 days' notice.
2.3 ChatPilot is licensed, not sold. We, or our licensors, keep all rights not expressly given to you.
3. What you may not do
You may not:
- copy, sell, rent, sublicense or distribute ChatPilot, or make it available to others as a service, unless your plan allows it;
- remove or work around licence checks or other technical limits;
- reverse-engineer or decompile ChatPilot, except where the law allows it despite this clause;
- use ChatPilot to send spam or bulk messages, to harass people, or for anything unlawful;
- use ChatPilot in a way that breaks the terms of the apps you connect (see section 6).
4. Your data stays yours
4.1 ChatPilot runs on your own device. Your messages, contacts, tasks and settings are stored there, and your logins are kept in your system's keychain. We do not receive or store them. The privacy policy explains what leaves your device, and when.
4.2 You decide per chat what ChatPilot stores and which AI may read it. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to process the messages and personal data of the people you talk to, when the law requires one (for example under the GDPR when you use ChatPilot for work).
5. AI features, sending and actions
5.1 ChatPilot uses AI that you connect yourself: your own Claude subscription (through Claude Code), an API key of an AI service, a model on your own computer, or another AI service. Your use of those services is governed by your agreement with their provider. We are not a party to it.
5.2 AI output can be wrong, incomplete or inappropriate. Check drafts, summaries, translations and suggestions before you rely on them.
5.3 ChatPilot sends nothing without your approval, except what you switch on yourself: a rule's away message, or a chat's auto-answer. You are responsible for every message sent from your accounts and every action you run in connected systems, including those sent by auto-answer or a rule you set up.
6. Third-party apps and services
6.1 ChatPilot connects to services that we don't control, including WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, Microsoft, Google, Apple, GitHub, Tailscale and the systems you connect. You need your own accounts with them, and their terms apply to how you use them.
6.2 WhatsApp has no official interface for personal accounts. ChatPilot connects to it as a linked device, the way WhatsApp Web does. WhatsApp may restrict or ban numbers it considers automated. You connect WhatsApp at your own risk; see the WhatsApp notice in ChatPilot.
6.3 We are not responsible for changes, outages or decisions of these services, including when they block ChatPilot or your account.
7. Updates and support
7.1 We may release updates that fix problems, change features or keep ChatPilot working with the services it connects to. Some updates may be needed to keep using ChatPilot.
7.2 Problem reports you send with "Report a problem" go to our report service. They contain only what you saw and approved before sending. We aim to answer, but, unless your plan includes a support level, we do not promise a response time.
8. Fees
The private beta is free. When paid plans start, their prices, billing periods and taxes are shown before you buy, and this section will say how payment and refunds work.
9. No warranty
ChatPilot, and especially the beta, is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we give no warranty that it is free of errors, works without interruption, or suits a particular purpose. Consumers keep the rights the law gives them regardless.
10. Liability
10.1 To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits, lost data, messages that were or weren't sent, or a blocked account with a third-party service.
10.2 Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us for ChatPilot in the 12 months before the claim, or EUR 100 if you use ChatPilot for free.
10.3 Nothing in this agreement limits liability for intent or gross negligence, or any liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Ending the agreement
You can stop using ChatPilot and uninstall it at any time. We may end your licence if you breach this agreement and don't fix it within 14 days of our notice, or straight away for a serious breach. When your licence ends you must stop using ChatPilot. Your data stays on your device; you can export it with the backup function before you uninstall.
12. Changes to this agreement
We may change this agreement. We will tell you in ChatPilot or by email at least 30 days before a change that affects you takes effect. If you don't agree, you can stop using ChatPilot and, for a paid plan, get a refund for the unused period.
13. Law and disputes
Dutch law applies. Disputes go to the competent court in Amsterdam, unless the law gives you, as a consumer, the right to go to a court where you live.
