Your settings in one file
settings.json holds the settings of the panel's cards: edit it as JSON, undo a save, change it by hand or copy it to another install.
The settings you make on the panel's cards are also kept in one file, settings.json, next to config.yaml: automatic follow-ups, the auto-answer level and always-to-me topics, away mode, the digest times, what you use ChatPilot for, automatic updates, the look, and the display choices you use on all devices. More settings move into it over time. It never holds keys or passwords.
The file is rewritten whenever a card changes one of its settings, so it always shows what the panel shows.
Edit it in the panel
Settings → Settings file shows the file as JSON. Under What each key means every setting is explained; Find a key searches them.
- Change what you like and press Save. The whole file is checked first: a mistake marks its line, says what's wrong and changes nothing.
- Discard changes puts back what the file says now.
- Every save keeps the version before it (the last 10). Undo last save goes back one.

Edit it by hand
You can also change settings.json in any editor, also while ChatPilot is stopped. ChatPilot picks the change up within a few seconds, with the same checks as Save. Keys you leave out stay as they are.
A file with a mistake changes nothing. A banner in the panel then names the line until the file is right again; Fix it opens the card. See A banner says settings.json has an error.
Copy it to another install
Settings → Backups → Download settings.json saves a copy. On the other install, Load from another install… shows every setting it would change before anything is saved. See Backups.
