Reply and approve drafts
Write a reply yourself or let ChatPilot draft it in your style; nothing is sent until you press Send.
The reply box is under the messages of every chat that's switched on. Whatever ChatPilot writes is a draft: nothing goes out until you press Send.
Write it yourself
Type in the box and press Send (or Enter; Shift+Enter starts a new line). Next to the box:
- π attaches files. You can also paste a screenshot or drop files on the box.
- π records a voice message; click again to stop.
- To answer one message in particular, use reply on that message first.
- In an e-mail chat with several of your addresses, pick which one the reply comes from; ChatPilot remembers it for that chat.
Let ChatPilot draft it
Press Draft with an empty box and ChatPilot writes the reply. Type a few words first ("yes, Tuesday, send the price list") and Draft turns your notes into a proper reply.

The draft lands in the reply box, marked AI draft, with ChatPilot's note beside it (what it wasn't sure about, or what you should check). Then:
- Change what you like and press Send. ChatPilot learns from your changes: see Automation β What ChatPilot learned β Your writing style.
- Rewrite asks for another version: Shorter, More formal, Friendlier, A different version, or type what to change.
- Discard draft throws it away.
Drafts follow how you write to that person (language, formal or informal, greeting, emoji), which ChatPilot learns from your own messages; see People.
Ask ChatPilot next to Draft asks a question about the chat instead, privately: see Discuss a chat with ChatPilot.
Notes about your work
ChatPilot writes better drafts when it knows your work. Put notes about your products, clients and team as Markdown files in the memory folder next to your settings (~/.config/chatpilot/memory/; Windows: %APPDATA%\chatpilot\memory). The AI reads them when it sorts and drafts, and picks up a change by itself. They are data for the AI, never shown to the people you write to.
With Claude Code as the main AI you can also let it look things up in folders of your own, read only, for example your product's documentation: drafts.knowledge_dirs in config.yaml ([~/projects/myproduct]). Discussions use the same folders. Don't point it at a folder with anything you wouldn't want the AI to read.
More for this reply
The β― button next to the box holds:
- Translate what's in the box into their language or another one.
- Save as template: keep the text to use again.
- After sending: bring this chat back and remind you if they haven't answered in 4 hours, 1 day, 3 days or a week.
Templates
Type / at the start of the box and pick a template by name. {name} in a template becomes the person's first name and {date} today's date. Manage them under Automation β Templates.
Send later
The π button next to Send schedules the message: in an hour, this evening, tomorrow morning, Monday, or a date and time. It shows in the chat as Scheduled with Send now, Change time and Cancel until it goes. Files can't be scheduled yet.
From your phone
Your Telegram control bot sends you drafts with a Send button, so you can approve a reply without opening the panel. See On your phone.
