Updates

See which version you have, install a new one with one click, or let updates install by themselves.

Settings → Updates shows This version, the Newest one and the Last check. ChatPilot checks every few hours. When a new version is out:

  • an ⬆️ Update button appears at the top of every screen, and
  • your Telegram control bot tells you what changed, with an Update now button.

Install an update

Press Update now on the card (it lists What's new first) and confirm. ChatPilot installs the new version and restarts; the page reconnects by itself. Check now looks for a new version at once.

From a terminal: chatpilot update (in a copy you installed with git: uv run chatpilot update).

Let updates install by themselves

Switch on Install updates by themselves (and restart). ChatPilot then installs each new version when it finds it and tells you in Telegram. The switch is kept in your settings file (settings.json) too.

What ChatPilot checks first

  • A copy from the installer only installs builds signed by ChatPilot's makers, and only when the download matches the signature. Anything else is refused, and nothing is installed.
  • A copy installed with git only moves forward to the newest version. If it has changes or commits of your own, the card says can't update itself and leaves it alone: update it yourself in a terminal (git status, then git pull).

ChatPilot in Docker

On a server in Docker, ChatPilot can't update itself: the image is what gets updated. The card shows the running version, the newest one and the command to run on the server (for an image built from the repository: git pull && docker compose up -d --build); Telegram tells you once per version and chatpilot update prints the same. There is no Update now button and no switch to install by themselves. Your settings and chats are kept in Docker's volumes and stay.

"Restart" instead of "Update"

If ChatPilot was updated on disk but still runs the old version (for example after a git pull in a terminal), the button at the top says Restart. Press it to use the new version.

If ChatPilot doesn't run as a service, the card says so after an update: restart it yourself.

Couldn't check

Couldn't check means ChatPilot couldn't reach the update server. Check the internet connection, then press Check now. If it keeps happening, report it.
