Link WhatsApp

Link ChatPilot to your WhatsApp as a linked device by scanning a code with your phone.

ChatPilot links to WhatsApp the way WhatsApp Web does: as a linked device of your phone. You scan a code once; your phone stays the main device.

WhatsApp has no official way for apps to use a personal account, so linking is unofficial. ChatPilot keeps the risk low: it never shows you as online or typing, sends read receipts only if you switch that on, never sends to many chats at once, and sends only what you approved (or what auto-answer sends in a chat where you switched it on). The card shows the full risk notice before the code.

Switch WhatsApp on

WhatsApp is off in a new install. In config.yaml (see First start) set enabled: true under whatsapp:, then restart ChatPilot:

  1. In the panel, open Settings → WhatsApp.
  2. Read the risk notice and press I understand, link WhatsApp.
  3. On your phone: open WhatsApp → Settings → Linked devices → Link a device, and scan the code in the panel.

The code is only valid for about a minute; when it has expired, press New code. Once the phone has scanned it, the card says linked and your chats start loading.

Then: switch chats on soon

Every WhatsApp chat starts switched off. WhatsApp sends the recent history of your chats only once, right after linking, and ChatPilot keeps it in memory until you switch chats on, so choose your chats soon: Choose which chats ChatPilot may read.

Read receipts

By default, marking a chat Done in ChatPilot leaves it unread on your phone and sends no blue ticks. To have Done count as read in WhatsApp too, switch on Done here = read in the app on the WhatsApp card under Settings → Which chats ChatPilot may read.

More than one number

＋ Add account links a further WhatsApp number to the same inbox, for example one per team member: give it a short name and scan the code on that phone. Remove unlinks a number: it leaves that phone's linked devices, and its chats stay in ChatPilot.
