Where your data lives

The data folder on this computer, how big it is, and moving it to another folder or an external disk.

ChatPilot keeps your chats and messages, people, the WhatsApp link and the photos and files you opened in one folder on this computer, the data folder. Settings → This app → Data folder shows where it is and how much room it takes.

Move it to another folder or disk

Press Move… and give the whole path of an empty or new folder, for example on an external disk. ChatPilot checks that it can write there and that there is room, then restarts. Before it opens anything it copies the whole folder, checks the copy (every file, and every database for damage) and goes on from the new folder. A large folder takes a moment; the panel reconnects when it's done.

If the move doesn't work (the disk is gone, there's no room any more), nothing changes: ChatPilot keeps running from the old folder and the card says why. A move that's waiting can be cancelled with Cancel until ChatPilot restarts. Installed without the app or the background service? Quit ChatPilot and start it again to make the move.

The old copy

After a move the old folder stays where it was, so nothing is lost if something looks wrong. When you're happy, press Remove the old copy to delete it, or Keep it to keep it and delete it yourself later.

Not in a sync folder

A Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or iCloud Drive folder can't hold the data folder: the sync copies the database while ChatPilot writes to it, or brings back an older copy from another computer, and that corrupts it. ChatPilot refuses such a folder and doesn't start from one: the page it shows instead has a Move it button that moves the data to a folder you give and starts from there. To have your data in one of those, let the backups go there.

Hosted and Docker

A ChatPilot we host, or one in a Docker container, keeps its data on the server's own disk (the container's volume), so the card shows the folder but has no Move….
