GitLab

See your GitLab issues and merge requests as chats in the inbox, on gitlab.com or your own GitLab, and answer them from ChatPilot.

ChatPilot can show your GitLab issues and merge requests as chats, next to your mail and messages. It works with gitlab.com and with your own GitLab.

Add your token

  1. In GitLab, click your avatar → Edit profile → Access tokens → Add new token. Give it a name, an end date and the scope api (ChatPilot reads your issues and posts the comments you send), then copy the token.
  2. In ChatPilot, open Settings → Integrations, click the Built in row at the bottom, then GitLab.
  3. Fill in the Address (https://gitlab.com, or your own GitLab's) and paste the token under Personal access token, then click Check and save. ChatPilot tries the token on that GitLab and shows whose it is.

The token is kept in the Keychain on this computer only. Remove token deletes it here; to revoke it at GitLab too, delete it under Access tokens there.

Issues and merge requests in the inbox

On the same page, switch on Issues and merge requests in the inbox. Every open issue or merge request you take part in — you wrote it, it's assigned to you, a review is asked of you, or it is on your GitLab to-do list (someone mentioned you) — and that was active in the last 30 days shows up as a chat under GitLab in the inbox list of apps (once one of them is switched on). An issue is written project#12, a merge request project!12 MR, as on GitLab.

Like every chat they start switched off: switch Index on for the ones ChatPilot may read, and AI for the ones it may sort and draft for. The text is the first message and each comment a message after it. On a merge request, a comment on a line of code starts with the file and line, and approvals show as Approved. Your reply is posted as a comment, only when you send it; when you answer a comment that is part of a thread, the reply goes into that thread. ChatPilot looks for new comments every five minutes.

For now a reply is text only (add files on GitLab itself), and GitLab's notification mails stay ordinary mail.
