ChatPilot
Getting started

Telegram notifications

Optional. Get ChatPilot's alerts, drafts and questions in Telegram too, through a bot of your own.

You don't need this: ChatPilot tells you what waits for you (drafts, questions, alerts) in the app itself. Would you like those in Telegram too, with a Send button on a draft? Then give ChatPilot a Telegram bot of your own, its control bot. Installs that already have one keep it.

Make your control bot

Settings → Notifications → Telegram → Connect walks you through it, under Your own bot (advanced):

  1. Press Open @BotFather. In Telegram, send /newbot to @BotFather, pick a name and then a username that ends in "bot". BotFather answers with a token.
  2. Paste the token and press Next. ChatPilot checks it with Telegram and shows your bot's name. It keeps the token in your computer's secret store, never in a file.
  3. Press Open @yourbot and then Start in Telegram. ChatPilot finds your Telegram account by itself; you don't need your user id.
  4. It asks Is this you? with the name of the account that pressed Start. Yes, link it, and the bot sends you a first message and works at once, without a restart. Not me waits for your own Start.

Cancel stops at any step and forgets the token. When nobody presses Start within five minutes, open your bot, press Start (or send /start) and press Try again. If ChatPilot says another program uses the bot, make a new bot for ChatPilot alone.

What the bot does

Once linked, the bot brings ChatPilot to Telegram: alerts for urgent messages, drafts with a Send button, reminders and digests. It only answers you. Commands:

CommandWhat it does
/inboxChats with new messages, most urgent first; open one for ✍️ Draft reply
/digestA summary of everything waiting
/summaryWhat you missed in busy groups
/backgroundWhat's worth a look in your 🌙 background chats (last 24 hours)
/statusConnections, counts and AI usage
/askTalk to ChatPilot (or just type)
/help how do I …A question about ChatPilot itself; see below
/bugReport a problem with ChatPilot itself
/autopilot offAuto-answer off in every chat at once (/autopilot on to resume)
/pause 2hPause ChatPilot for a while (/resume to go on); see Pause ChatPilot

Anything else you type is a question for ChatPilot.

Questions about ChatPilot itself

Type /help and your question, for example /help how do I switch on auto-answer? or /help why didn't it answer Amanda?. ChatPilot answers from the manual that came with the version you have, so the steps match your app. Under the answer, From the manual links the articles it used; one written for another version says it may be out of date. When the panel opens on your phone (below), the links open it there, Take me there opens the Settings card the article explains and Start the wizard opens the step-by-step wizard for linking an account. For "why didn't it answer …?" it reads that chat's auto-answer right now and says why; a button opens the chat, or it names the command that changes it (/resume, /autopilot on). ChatPilot never changes a setting itself. /help alone lists the commands.

A new token or another Telegram account

Settings → Control bot changes the bot later:

  • New bot token: paste the token when you made a new one at @BotFather (/token, which stops the old one) or made another bot (/newbot). The stored token is never shown again; leave the field empty to keep it.
  • Your Telegram user id: the number of the Telegram account the bot answers. Send any message to @userinfobot to see yours.

Test checks the token with Telegram and sends you a test message, without saving anything. If it says the bot can't write to you, send /start to your bot in Telegram first. Save stores the values; the bot uses them after a restart, which the card offers (Restart).
